Having outrivaled five other cities, Bydgoszcz is now placed sixth in the official ranking of the Association of Candidate Cities to the European Capital of Culture 2016.

Paderewski Music Association in Bydgoszcz for eighty four years has been trying to honor the good name of city and the region, through the numerous cultural initiatives. One of the most important examples was the co-operation in opening The Pomeranian Philharmonic, The Opera Nova as well as secondary and higher musical education in Bydgoszcz.
The mission of  The Music Association is a continuous promotion of the composer and statesman - Ignacy Jan Paderewski and his vocal composition through organizing  concerts and meetings dedicated the Maestro's person. The most important and prestigious initiatives are The International Paderewski Piano Competition and The Paderewski Vocal Competition.
