The “Crossing the River” sculpture (height: 2 m., weight: 50 kg.) is a new symbol of the city. It was designed by Jerzy Kędziora and was later placed on a rope over the Brda River. It was officially unveiled on 1 may 2004 on the day Poland became a member of the EU. On the rope, there is a swallow - in German Schwalbe - associated with Andrzej Szwalbe, director of Pomeranian Concert Hall.

Every day at 1.13 p.m. and 9.13 p.m., the picturesque figure of Mr Twardowski wearing a kontusz (outer garment worn by the Polish and Lithuanian male nobility) and holding a karabela (a type of polish sabre) appears in the window of the building at 15 Old Market Square. This 90 second long show is accompanied by the devils laughter and music by Grzegorz Daroń. The movable sculpture of the legendary Master Twardowski, which was a gift on the 660th birthday of the city, has already become one of the city's attractions, admired by both locals and tourists.

Bydgoszcz Old Town 19 April 1346 King Kazimierz Wielki released the fundation privilege which granted the civic rights to Bydgoszcz. The Old Town as built in the Gothic style, with central rectangular square market and two main street: Długa and Dworcowa.
